Wealth Management Intern

May - August 2018 • Bala Cynwyd, PA

What I liked

The culture of the company was excellent. It was not a typical internship where I was only doing busy work. I was gaining hands on experience, meeting with clients, and working with fellow advisers each day.

What I wish was different

I only worked three days a week. I wish that I could have worked a full week.

Advice

Try to gain the best out of each day. Go into work each day trying to learn something new.

Global Wealth and Investment Advisory Intern

June - August 2018 • Florham Park, NJ

What I liked

I really liked the team-orientated atmosphere. There were five of us and we worked very well together. I could turn to them whenever I had questions or did not understand a concept. Overall, the people, culture, and atmosphere were the three characteristics of Merrill Lynch that I found most appealing.

What I wish was different

While the team gave me a lot of work related to financial markets (ie. market summaries, portfolio modeling & oversight, etc.) and was in wealth advisory, I would have wanted more of a market-centric role.

Advice

Networking was crucial for me to land a freshman summer internship. 90% of the reason I received the offer to join Merrill Lynch was because I went out of my way and contacted more than 20 teams across NJ and NYC just to get a phone call interview. The one piece of advice I would share is to NEVER stop networking, even if you are nervous or uncomfortable about reaching out.

Global Wealth Management Intern

March - June 2018 • Garden City, NY

What I liked

People that I worked with were really nice and helpful, and they would always help me if I had any questions. Location of the office was fantastic. Office atmosphere was great and everyone was very positive, family oriented and costumer focused.

What I wish was different

As an Intern, they do not give you big responsibilities and I wish the workload was heavier. It was very light, easy work. I was expecting much more.

Advice

To a student- always maintain professional attitude, no matter what. To the company- maybe you give a little heavier workload to students.

Client Associate

January 2018 • Mill Valley, CA

What I liked

I loved working with my team. I have interned at many different companies but this is the first place I developed a genuine bond with my team. My bosses were great mentors and really wanted to make sure I was learning skills that I told them I wanted to develop.

What I wish was different

Really, I didn't have too much to complain about. Perhaps sometimes if I could get different projects but the work required licensing so there really wasn't more they could give me.

Advice

Make sure you are not afraid to ask questions even if you might be insecure of speaking up. The more questions you ask the more you learn.
