Swim Instructor
June - September 2019 • Davis, CA
What I liked
I really enjoyed my experience working with campus rec because while they maintained a high level of professionalism, everyone is one big family. The job was memorable, teaching young kids to swim, which swimming has been a huge part of my life ever since I was born, so everything was very fulfilling. I looked forward to coming to the pool every morning, despite how early it was.
What I wish was different
I guess the only thing that I wish I could change is that they had continued lessons into the fall season. I think it's very important to provide experiences, such as learning to swim, to help the local community grow together and expand beyond their means. Who better to help them do that than college students doing the same things in their own lives!
Advice
Always treat people with dignity. I taught a private lessons to a few moms who never learned to swim and they would always express how ashamed they were for not being able to swim while their children were so easily able to pick it up. No one should be ashamed of themselves because they can't do something someone else can, there's always going to be something you can't do but someone else can.
