Product & Portfolio Strategy Intern

June - August 2022 • Boston, MA

What I liked

I worked in Calvert, the ESG arm of Eaton Vance, whom MS acquired in 2021. In my specific role, I was exposed to a ton of information and people involved with ESG investing/research. I had no shortage of opportunities to connect with senior figures at the company, and Morgan Stanley even sent all of the interns to NYC for a week-long orientation in the start of summer!

What I wish was different

My workload was hit or miss- some weeks I would be asking for work and others I would have enough to keep me occupied.

Advice

Be prepared to speak intelligently about current market events and your interests in investing.

What I liked

I really liked the community and culture at Morgan Stanley. Everyone was really nice and seemed to love the company.

What I wish was different

I wish I'd been able to spend more time in the office so I could get a better feel for what work would really be like on a day-to-day basis, but obviously this was not possible due to Covid.

Advice

I would advise interns to reach out to lots of people during your internship, including within your intern cohort, previous interns that have become full-time associates, and also senior people within the company.

I wish the internship had been in person but it wasn't due to the pandemic.

It is very very important to network internally and so the opportunities the internship provides to meet people within the firm are invaluable and should be taken advantage of.
