5th Grade Teacher
5th Grade Teacher Wanted: Must Love Big Questions, Group Projects, and Saying “Let’s Try That Another Way”
Do you believe that 5th grade is where the magic happens, that sweet spot where kids are still full of imagination but ready to tackle real-world thinking? Can you teach decimals and figurative language before lunch and still have enough energy to coach a science investigation in the afternoon? Do you enjoy planning alongside a partner who finishes your thought, shares your coffee creamer, and can back you up during a spontaneous debate about whether Pluto should count as a planet?
Welcome to co-teaching at Gindi Maimonides Academy, where two heads (and hearts) are better than one.
What Makes This Role Special:
In our elementary school, no one teaches alone. Every classroom is led by either two credentialed teachers or a lead teacher paired with a full-time associate who’s on the journey to becoming a credentialed educator. We believe that collaboration fosters a more effective learning experience for both students and teachers. You'll share a classroom, share the planning, and share the growth. It’s a team sport, and it works.
What You'll Be Doing (With Your Teaching Partner and Grade Level Partners By Your Side):
- Co-plan and co-teach engaging, standards-based lessons in reading, writing, math, science, and social studies
- Lean into big ideas, rich discussions, and creative projects
- Differentiate instruction and support all learners
- Build a classroom community rooted in curiosity, respect, and joy
- Help students stretch academically and grow as kind, capable people
- Stay in close communication with families as partners in learning
- Collaborate with your grade-level team and specialist teachers (PE, music, art, library, innovation lab)
Who You Are:
- A credentialed teacher with a passion for upper elementary learning and a strong sense of humor
- Comfortable sharing space, ideas, and responsibility with a co-teacher
- Able to balance structure and flexibility, planning and spontaneity
- Deeply invested in both academic rigor and social-emotional learning
- Excited to be part of a professional community that shares, reflects, laughs, and grows together
Why You’ll Love Working Here:
- Small class sizes (18–24 students)
- Full-time co-teaching model (yes, every day!)
- A schedule that includes daily PE and weekly specialist classes, giving you time to plan, breathe, and collaborate
- A warm, mission-driven school community that values academic excellence and character development
- Located on the border of West Hollywood and Beverly Hills, with a supportive and joyful staff culture
