Non-Profit Leadership & Management Intern

About the Role:

The Nonprofit Leadership and Management Intern will play a crucial role in supporting the operations and growth of our nonprofit organization. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in various aspects of nonprofit management, including leadership, program development, fundraising, and community engagement. The intern will work closely with the executive team and other staff members to contribute to the organization's mission and make a positive impact in the community.

This internship is unpaid, but eligible for academic or course credit if approved by your educational institution. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Answer and make phone calls, respond to questions and concerns of management, staff and community partners, and send professional written communication  
  • Serve as a liaison between teams, projects, and the Executive Board.
  • Nonprofit leadership and management interns will work closely with the President and senior staff, participate in meetings and events, and contribute to the organization's mission and goals.
  • Interns should expect to lead/run team department meetings, take attendance, and assist in managing staff participation.
  • Interns in their respective team department will be tasked with assigning buddies following new staff orientations. They are required to compile a list of staff members willing to serve as buddies and document this in the 2024 staff planning Excel sheets.
  • Participate in facilitation training and assist in facilitating one or more of the organization's virtual departments and/or committees.
  • Act as a mentor and point of contact for new interns during their induction and onboarding process through our Buddy system once assimilated.
  • Participate in power automate training to enhance skills and proficiency in automating workflows and processes.
  • Perform a variety of administrative support duties and perform other assigned duties as needed
  • Assist with Strategic planning for the organization
  • Prepare and give presentations

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Pursuing an undergraduate degree in Nonprofit Leadership and Management, Business Administration, Human Services, Public Administration,  Public Policy, Communication, or Finance, and/or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience 
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet project deadlines
  • Demonstrates strong and effective research, organizational and time management skills
  • Strong written communication skills, and experience working in a deadline-driven environment
  • Ability to work independently and a strong attention to detail
  • Ability to collaborate as a team member and be available for collaboration outside of the mandatory meetings
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
  • Intern must have the appropriate technology, internet connection and ability to function in a virtual capacity via Microsoft Teams 

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of grant writing techniques and strategies 
  • Experience with writing grant proposals within Los Angeles County (a plus)
  • Familiar or have experience with business development in non-profit organizations
  • Experience in marketing, communications or development (a plus)
  • An interest or experience in fundraising
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Teams and OneNote, and Adobe Creative Suite (especially Adobe Acrobat DC)

Learning Objectives: 

  • Learn methods and techniques to procure potential donors
  • Learn to prepare and present research findings to organizational leaders
  • Learn to plan and organize fundraising events to acquire funds for projects 
  • Learn to write and prepare documentation in relation to acquiring potential donors
  • Learn to write and prepare Statement of Work 

Time Commitment :

  • Must be available to work a minimum of 15 hours per week 
  • Must be available for the following VIRTUAL weekly meetings:  
    • Weekly All Staff Meeting: Mondays 10 AM – 11 AM PST 
    • Weekly Department Meeting: Thursdays 10 AM – 11 AM PST 
    • Weekly Department Meeting: Thursdays 12 PM – 1 PM PST
    • Weekly Department Meeting: Thursdays 2 PM – 3 PM PST 
  • Must be able to commit to this 1-year internship (accommodations can be made for final exams)
