About the Internship Experience:

As a NYSTEC intern, you will work with internal and external clients under the direction of an assigned mentor. You will learn consulting competencies, such as industry understanding, client/business perspective, leadership, resource management, opportunity development, consulting business knowledge, partnering and networking, personal interaction, managing quality, business ethics, and continued learning and development.

As a project coordinator intern in the Technology Procurement and Implementation Services (TPIS) practice, your day-to-day role will be to:

  • Collaborate with internal TPIS team members (and external clients, as needed) to understand scope of work, conduct project coordination and tracking activities, and support the team as needed.
  • Familiarize yourself with NYSTEC business processes and the services offered.
  • Support team members, under the direction of a mentor, in scheduling meetings (internal and external), taking notes, and developing meeting summaries and any other project management activities.
  • Conduct and lead, under the direction of a mentor, an internal project to improve practice efficiency and processes.
  • Develop and manage a detailed project schedule and work plan.
  • Assign tasks, follow up with team members/owners on status and progress, and maintain effective documentation for the project at hand.
  • Develop strong interpersonal relationships (a key skill as a consultant within NYSTEC) with TPIS members and clients, as applicable.
  • Learn and apply industry best practices, techniques, and standards throughout project execution.
  • Develop skills as a strong consultant by applying analytical thinking to a problem at hand, analyze the information available, and develop proposed solutions to vet with a team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform consulting services tasks in collaboration with a mentor.
  • Develop and foster strong relationships with internal and external clients.
  • Proactively share information that will make colleagues and clients more successful.
  • Learn and use NYSTEC’s appropriate tools and processes.
  • Participate in internal and, potentially, client-facing meetings.
  • Prepare reports and presentations.
  • Coordination of meetings, preparing communication, and performing business analysis.
  • Tracking of tasks, risks, decisions related to project management.

 

About You:

Required Qualifications

  • Works under fairly low supervision, receives and processes instruction for new assignments, and exercises a high degree of initiative and discretion in the completion of assigned tasks.
  • Able to problem solve complex assignments requiring research and analysis.
  • Must demonstrate expertise in an area of specialization and apply and interpret fundamental principles, theories, and concepts within that specialization.
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communications, strong interpersonal skills, and have the ability to manage and develop key relationships with colleagues and clients through collaborative thinking and a strong customer focus.
  • Must be well organized, able to work well under pressure, and a good team player.
  • Takes feedback well in the spirit of continuous growth and improvement.
  • Must have a commitment to the NYSTEC Experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience with project coordination.

Education and Experience

This program seeks undergraduate and graduate students with exceptional technical and research skills, combined with strong leadership potential. We look for diverse educational and professional experience.

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited degree program with a concentration in business, project management, technology, or a related field.

The NYSTEC Internship Program for summer 2024 will run from May 13- August 2. The typical schedule will be during normal business hours of 8:00 a.m. -5:00 p.m. Specific hours can be negotiated based on the intern's availability. Pay rates for interns are:

  • $22 per hour for undergraduate students.
  • $24 per hour for graduate students.
