Marketing Communications Intern

About the Internship Experience:

As a NYSTEC intern, you will work with internal clients under the direction of an assigned mentor. You will learn and grow internal services core competencies, such as knowledge and application, complexity and problem solving, and collaboration and interaction.

As a marketing communications intern in the Marketing Communications department, your day-to-day role will be helping support internal and external communications initiatives at NYSTEC.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop marketing and communication materials and provide additional support, as needed.
  • Contribute to Microsoft PowerPoint pitch development, proofreading, event planning and actualization, photo/videography, writing, graphic design, website content and/or social media content — depending on skillset.
  • Develop and foster strong relationships with internal clients.
  • Proactively share communications and marketing information and ideas to make colleagues more successful.
  • Learn and use NYSTEC’s and the Marketing Communications department’s tools and processes.
  • Participate in internal meetings and provide the Marketing Communications team additional support, as needed.

About You:

Required Qualifications

  • Works under general supervision, receives minimal instruction for new assignments, and exercises a high degree of initiative and discretion in the completion of assigned tasks.
  • Must demonstrate expertise in an area of specialization and apply and interpret fundamental principles, theories, and concepts within that specialization.
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communications, strong interpersonal skills, and have the ability to manage and develop key relationships with colleagues through collaborative thinking and a strong customer focus.
  • Must be well organized, able to work well under pressure, and a good team player.
  • Must have a commitment to the NYSTEC Experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with marketing and communications, with skills ranging from writing to social media, marketing, photography, graphic design, and/or events.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of products.

Education and Experience

This program seeks undergraduate and graduate students with exceptional technical and research skills, combined with strong leadership potential. We look for diverse educational and professional experience.

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited degree program with a concentration in communications, marketing, digital communications, graphic design, or a related program.

The NYSTEC Internship Program for summer 2024 will run from May 13-August 2. The typical schedule will be during normal business hours of 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. Specific hours can be negotiated based on the intern's availability. Pay rates for interns are:

  • $22 per hour for undergraduate students.
  • $24 per hour for graduate students.
