Medical Scribe

Medical Scribe Description: Scribe Partners is in the process of offering "Medical Scribe" support services to physicians of all specialties in the Greater New England Area through a 1-2 year internship. A medical scribe is an individual who shadows a physician and assists them in creating patient visit notes in the EMR among other tasks. This support enables the physician to be more productive by completing required daily tasks in a more timely manner. In turn, this provides the pre-med student with invaluable insight into the daily life of a physician and what is required, not to mention the potential to secure a powerful reference letter for medical school.

Requirements: We are looking for students with either a bachelor of science, post-baccalaureate degree in pre-meds studies, or graduate students with a pre-medical background (i.e. future PAs, NPs, RNs, and EMTs are welcome to also apply).

Hours: Hours vary from part-time (8 hrs per week) to full-time (40 hr per week).

Travel Expenses: Travel is required to/from physicians office.

Training: Physicians, nurses and other certified instructors provide comprehensive training in advance of placement.

Responsibilities: A medical scribe’s core responsibility is to capture accurate and detailed documentation (handwritten, electronic, or otherwise) of the encounter in a timely manner. Scribes are not permitted to make independent decisions or translations while capturing or entering information into the health record or EHR beyond what is directed by the provider. A Medical Scribe must accurately and thoroughly document medical visits and procedures as they are being performed “live” by the physician, including but not limited to:

o  Entering documentation of the patient’s medical history and physical exam, lab tests, procedures, prescriptions, diagnostics into the EHR as directed by the provider.

o  Scribes can give instructions to patients or family members as directed by a provider.

o  Locate information for review (i.e., previous notes, reports, test results, and laboratory results)

o  Respond to various messages as directed by the provider

o  Research information as requested by the provider

o  Reviews charts for proper and complete CPT and ICD-10 coding and documentation to support daily charges.
