Summary:
Hitachi America, Ltd. (http://www.hitachi-america.us/) has openings for Research Science Interns in the IoT Edge Laboratory (IEL) located in Santa Clara. IEL is part of Hitachi’s R&D Center, a leading technology provider to support Hitachi’s global Social Innovation business. We focus on a variety of research problems on the leading edge of innovation in Industrial AI and Supply Chain Solutions. We work closely with Hitachi product and business divisions with the goal of addressing customer pain points; however, like academia we do publish as well. IP generation (patents etc.) are highly encouraged.

We are seeking research scientists to create innovative algorithms and solutions for supply chain, and industrial AI. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to solve challenging real-world problems, work on large data sets and to build practical solutions. This position is a perfect match for a visionary scientist who is passionate about the unlimited potential of machine learning/AI/data mining/statistics for creating a better human society in an economically viable and environmentally conscious way.

As an intern, you will be given a few problems, of which you may work on one or more that best fit your skills, interests, and personality. You will be paired with a mentor to guide you through your journey. We want to make this a wonderful experience where you gain practical knowledge while advancing our most cutting-edge solutions. We expect you to be productive, proactive, and a team player.

Responsibilities:

  • Research and develop innovative algorithms and solutions for supply chain, and industrial AI
  • Prepare and execute proof-of-concepts of the solutions in collaboration with other researchers and interns
  • Protect Hitachi’s IP through patents and other activities and publish technical results in leading venues to establish Hitachi as a leader in advanced analytics and AI


Qualifications:

  • Ph. D degree (or in progress) in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field
  • Strong research experience in data science, graph learning, or an applied field
  • Knowledge of dynamic graph analysis techniques is a plus
  • Good programming skills and knowledge of data science tools and libraries in Python - Knowledge of big data platforms and cloud computing are a plus
  • Self-motivated and passionate about solving real-world problems and building innovative systems with big data analytics
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively create and deliver technical communications, including patent applications, presentations, papers, and reports
  • Ability to collaborate successfully with R&D co-workers
