R&D Engineering Co-Op / Internship (July-Dec 2022)

CONMED Advanced Endoscopic Technologies (AET) products are used by gastroenterologists to diagnose and treat diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. Our strategic focus is to advance therapeutic endoscopy across a wide range of applications and our product portfolio also includes patient monitoring products. The R&D team is responsible for the product pipeline and for maintaining our current product portfolio.
Interns on this team will develop an understanding of the product development process, test method development and validation, Solidworks, 3D printing, design controls, verification testing, validation testing, business concepts, and prototyping.
As an AET R&D Engineering Intern, you will learn alongside seasoned professionals through hands on application of engineering principles and methodologies. Your efforts in problem solving, innovation and cross-functional collaboration will directly contribute to the team's R&D projects and initiatives. Within this close-knit team, you will work directly on products that are currently on the market, as well as next generation devices that are in the development pipeline.

Intern Responsibilities:
  • Conduct and support system and product reliability testing by confirming methods and procedures as well as designing required tooling 
  • Design test and product specifications based on benchtop testing and clinician feedback 
  • Work with Sales and Marketing teams to define customer needs, develop ergonomic solutions and gain feedback 
  • Review test specifications, procedures and process instructions 
  • Maintain test equipment configurations and standardization 
  • Author and/or assist in the creation of new test methods and protocols 
  • Work in a team to support engineering efforts, propose and implement technical solutions 
  • Work with design, manufacturing, and quality engineers to bring novel concepts from idea to production 
  • Develop fixturing/instrumentation to execute tests using injection molding, additive manufacturing (3D printing, metal laser sintering) using 3D modeling (SolidWorks) 
  • Research and test new equipment and materials for concept development & prototyping 
  • Learn key GI anatomy and surgical practices in minimally invasive flexible endoscopy 

Position Requirements:
  • Pursuing completion of a bachelors or masters degree in a related field, such as biomedical engineering or mechanical engineering
  • Must be available to work onsite out of the Westborough, MA site, 40 hours/week, Monday – Friday throughout the internship program (July 2022 – December 2022)
