PAID Private Sector Department Intern (Social Justice WOW)

About Oxfam America (OA)

Oxfam America (OA) established the Private Sector Department (PSD) in order to channel the creativity, resources, and influence of the private sector towards pro-poor ends. As a rare global development organization with private sector capacity, OA is a leader in corporate campaigning, innovative collaborations, and pro-poor private sector development. The department also supports private sector engagement on the following OA campaigns and advocacy priorities: inequality, investor advocacy, economic justice, and gender justice. 


Internship Overview
Interning with PSD gives students the unique opportunity to gain real world experience by working at our Global Headquarters in Boston, MA in the areas of development, human rights, corporate responsibility and international law. Interns are expected to work full-time.
The Intern will have the opportunity to:
  •  Work collaboratively in a fast paced, professional environment.
  • Contribute to one or more domestic and/or international projects.
  • Address economic, social and cultural rights both within the US and internationally.
  • Develop skills in research & writing for a range of purposes and different audiences.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide logistic, administrative, and technical support to special projects as needed.
  • Conduct research and analysis that will support programs and advocacy as needed.
  • Track information and measure impact of program work.
  • Draft communication documents for internal and external purposes.
  • Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning: Help timely gathering of reviews and progress on the team’s engagement and advocacy with companies, law firms, investors, and other stakeholders.
  •  Knowledge management: Maintains repository of reports, research and other data that the team generates, and ensures this material is easily accessible.
  • Grant management and reporting: liaises with the relevant departments to coordinate the reporting deadlines and formats and donor briefings, ensures the quality and timeliness of reporting and invoices, supports country offices in delivering on their deadlines, etc.

  • Time Commitment: 35 hours/week


QUALIFICATIONS Required:
Education
  • The ideal candidate should have, or be pursuing, an undergraduate or graduate degree in Political Science, International Affairs, or a related field, or have equivalent work experience. 
  • Must be receiving academic credit or stipend
Experience and Core Competencies
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Interest and knowledge of issue and advocacy campaigning
  • Ability to work well with others
  • Strong organizational skills, professionalism, and ability to meet deadlines
  • Interest in global social justice issues
  • High level of personal energy and commitment
  • Ideal candidate will be self-motivated, an excellent listener, and a good organizer with a strong commitment to social justice
QUALIFICATIONS Preferred:
  • Knowledge of the field of international development and human rights
  •  Proficiency in Excel, Smartsheet, Salesforce, and HubSpot.
