Director of Finance and Administration

POSITION
We are seeking a full-time Director of Finance and Administration to partner with our team in managing our financial operations and reporting on complex financial transactions that support our efforts to invest to close the racial wealth divide. This position will report directly to the CEO. We are seeking someone who shares our beliefs that:
  • Current capital markets aren’t working
  • Investment decisions should not be strictly financial
  • We have much to learn from emerging models of impact investing, solidarity economics and justice movements
A successful candidate will be a hands-on, collaborative team player, who will lead and manage the following areas: finance, fund accounting, business planning and budgeting, human resources, administration and IT. 

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES   
Financial Management
  • Manage the day-to-day finance and accounting function for the organization and the fund; oversee all financial, fund, project/program and grants accounting.
  • Prepare all monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports for the Investment Committee and Board; Analyze and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Coordinate all capital disbursements, payments and reporting requirements for (a) portfolio companies, and (b) the Fund’s investors and grantmakers; Manage the portfolio and investment database.
  • Manage the annual audit process with the external auditor.
  • Manage the annual budgeting and planning process; prepare annual and multi-year budgets and cash flow forecasts; monitor progress and changes.
  • Update and implement all necessary business policies and accounting practices
  • Develop the finance department’s overall policy and procedure manual.
  • Manage the organization’s financial management, contracts, and reporting systems (e.g. Quickbooks, Nortridge); ensure adherence to contract billing and collection schedules
  • Ensure compliance with applicable financial and accounting standards, and with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
Human Resources, IT and Administration
  • Provide administrative and human resources support to the organization.
  • Administer payroll, compensation, benefits, and performance management, employee recruitment and onboarding process. 
  • Evaluate and implement enhancements to the payroll, compensation and benefits and performance management systems to establish competitive programs and ensure compliance with legal requirements.
  • Manage the organization’s insurance policies and risk program.
  • Support the organization’s information security program.
  • Other duties as assigned.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in finance and accounting.
  • Nonprofit accounting a must; fund accounting experience (either via employment or via contract services) strongly preferred.
  • Fluency in U.S. GAAP, fund compliance and internal controls.
  • Fluency in Quickbooks and fund accounting software such as Nortridge 
  • Experience with payroll and benefits management.
  • Demonstrated interest in and understanding of economic justice, racial justice, gender equity, sustainability, and/or related topics.
  • Ability to be self-directed and meet rapid deadlines.
  • Willingness to continuously learn and adapt.
  • Resourceful, proactive, able to prioritize and navigate in a fast-paced team-oriented environment.
  • Strong project management and communication skills.  
  • Excellent organization, attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Ability to handle complex and confidential information with discretion.

Compensation and Benefits
This is a full-time, exempt position. The salary range is $80,000 - $100,000 commensurate with experience, plus an employee bonus of up to 20% of base salary.
