DESE is looking for interns for the Fall, Spring, and Summer!

As a software engineering intern, you will be responsible with helping to improve and maintain the website of the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Working as a software engineering intern will allow you to gain hands-on skills and lead efforts in an area of high impact for the state. The department’s website and newsletters are important points for communication, used in previous and ongoing campaigns including Teach Mass and Deeper Learning.

Major responsibilities:
  • Assist in revamping DESE’s current website and provide technical support to the IT and communication teams
  • Work with other interns and developers to update website upon request, and to add functions and features as necessary
  • Optimize MailChimp template and newsletter design
  • Revamp and build an interactive DESE’s annual report on MailChimp
  • Assist with MailChimp management upon request
                                         
Desired skills and background:
  • Pursuing a BS/MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field
  • Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Proficiency in ASP.net
  • Experience with MS SQL
  • A solid portfolio or a well-developed website sample
  • Strong analytic and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication skills, including ability to explain complex technical issues to non-technical audiences

Parking and transportation:
From the T: take the Orange Line and get off at the Malden Center stop. DESE is a 5-minute walk from the station.
Parking is available both at the CBD Garage and Jackson Street Garage. The parking lot next to DESE is limited to 2-hour parking.
