Software Engineer Intern

The Texas Workforce Commission, a dynamic state agency with 4,500 employees helping the states economy grow by connecting people with jobs, is offering internship opportunities for the fall of 2019.

TWC internships offer real-life experience in public service. Interns can gain practical experience with a wide variety of software engineering tasks while collaborating hand-in-hand with skilled teams of software engineers. There will be shadowing, mentoring, and training opportunities with talented professionals and opportunity to participate in networking events and company meetings. Interns may also perform entry-level administrative support or technical program assistance work depending on agency need and the interns unique skills. Interns will work under supervisors who will provide feedback for the intern during the internship experience.

TWC is seeking a Software Engineer Intern to work for the IT Enterprise Architecture Group. The intern will gain valuable experience in software design, coding and debugging. This position enables real-world software engineering experience at a thriving, exciting workplace. Responsibilities for this internship position include the following:
  • Maintaining (bugs fixing) software applications
  • Documenting System Design
  • Documenting and test application features
  • Assisting with installing software
  • Assisting with preparing and/or modify system and process documentation
  • Completing special projects
  • Completing additional task as assigned
The department is seeking an intern who is majoring in Computer Science/Network Engineering, Engineering, or Mathematics. The ideal intern will work well in a team environment. An intern with excellent analytical and mathematics skills as well as experience with programming in C, C++, or Java is preferred.

This is a great internship for students looking to get real-world experience at a great state agency with a noble public service mission of helping people get jobs. Were located in the agencys Annex Building at 1411 Brazos Street, Austin, TX 78778.

TWC Internships are full or part-time, temporary positions that cannot be filled for more than six months in a year. The internship pays $2,600 per month at a full-time status and comes with some benefits.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or successful completion of GED certification.
  • Proof of enrollment at an accredited college or university must be provided.
  • Continued enrollment may be required throughout internship.
Experience:
  • No working experience required.
