Psychiatric Technician, Per Diem, CenterPointe (Kalamazoo)

Psychiatric Technician Level I

As a Psychiatric Technician at Pine Rest, you'll provide compassionate, hands-on care to individuals experiencing mental illness and developmental disabilities. Working alongside a multidisciplinary team, you'll help create a safe, therapeutic environment while building meaningful relationships with those you serve.

What You'll Do

  • Provide direct care and emotional support to patients
  • Help maintain a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment
  • Participate in crisis intervention, de-escalation, and safety management
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, etc.) as needed
  • Lead and support therapeutic groups and daily programming
  • Document patient progress, observations, and medication administration
  • Monitor patient safety and promptly report concerns to the treatment team
  • Teach and encourage social, coping, and daily living skills
  • Escort patients to appointments and community outings when appropriate
  • Assist with household tasks such as light cleaning, laundry, and meal preparation in residential settings
  • Conduct searches and drug testing as required by the program
  • Support individualized treatment plans and recovery goals
  • Help train and mentor new team members

What We're Looking For

  • Six months of post-high school education in behavioral sciences preferred
  • CNA certification or one to two years of college preferred
  • Passion for behavioral health and helping others
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to remain calm in crisis situations

Schedule

  • Onsite position
  • Weekend and holiday availability may be required
