Role Description:

This is a full-time on-site role in New York, NY for a Founding Product Designer. You’ll work closely with our Founding Full Stack Engineer and Founding AI Engineer to design a new developer-facing platform spanning desktop software, editor experiences, and a web hub. You will own the UI/UX end-to-end—information architecture, interaction design, and visual systems—creating interfaces that are simple, intuitive, and beautiful, while still supporting complex workflows and collaboration. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in early-stage environments, moves quickly from concept to prototype, and raises the bar for craft across every surface.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Design end-to-end UX for a desktop application, VS Code extension, and web hub
  • Create clear, intuitive ways to browse, search, filter, and compare history and collaboration workflows
  • Define interaction patterns that connect high-level intent to underlying outputs in an understandable, natural way
  • Build and maintain a cross-surface design system (components, typography, layout, spacing, states, accessibility)
  • Produce high-signal deliverables: user flows, wireframes, prototypes, high-fidelity UI, and implementation-ready specs
  • Partner tightly with engineering to ensure designs are feasible, performant, and high quality in execution
  • Design onboarding, empty states, error states, and edge cases so the product feels coherent and trustworthy
  • Run lightweight user research and usability testing to validate designs and iterate rapidly

 

Required:

  • 5+ years (or equivalent) product design experience with a strong portfolio demonstrating:
  • complex systems made intuitive
  • excellent information architecture and interaction design
  • high craft visual design
  • Experience designing workflow-heavy products (not just marketing sites)
  • Strong product sense and the ability to simplify without losing power or clarity
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills in tight engineer/designer loops
  • Ability to prototype quickly (Figma or equivalent) and iterate based on feedback
  • Comfort operating in ambiguity and taking ownership in a fast-paced startup environment
  • Experience in a non-developer industry (e.g., finance, HR, marketing, architecture, operations, healthcare, etc.) and/or designing for non-technical users—strongly valued

 

Preferred:

  • Experience designing developer tools, technical platforms, or complex productivity software
  • Experience designing desktop applications (Electron/Tauri/macOS/Windows patterns)
  • Experience with VS Code extensions or editor-adjacent UX
  • Ability to write or contribute to front-end code (React/TypeScript/CSS) to support implementation when needed
  • Familiarity with AI-enabled UX patterns (semantic search, intent-driven workflows, agentic/automation interfaces)
  • Early-stage startup / founding team experience
