Speech and Debate Tutor (Remote)

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Speech and Debate Tutor to coach students in public speaking, argumentation, and critical thinking. The ideal candidate will help learners refine their communication skills, build confidence, and prepare for academic or competitive speech and debate events.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one and/or small group instruction in speech and debate.
  • Teach debate formats such as Lincoln-Douglas, Policy, Public Forum, and Parliamentary.
  • Instruct students in public speaking categories (e.g., Original Oratory, Extemporaneous Speaking, Interpretation events).
  • Guide students through research, case construction, and evidence-based argumentation.
  • Offer personalized feedback to strengthen delivery, logic, and persuasion.
  • Prepare students for competitions, tournaments, and presentations.
  • Develop engaging lesson plans and resources tailored to students’ skill levels and goals.
  • Encourage respectful discourse, intellectual curiosity, and confidence in speaking.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Political Science, English, Education, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Prior experience as a debate coach, competitor, or speech educator.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to motivate and mentor students of various ages and skill levels.
  • Familiarity with current debate formats, rules, and judging criteria.
  • (Preferred) Experience teaching in-person and/or online via platforms like Zoom or Google Meet.
