Event & Community Engagement Internship

Organization: Jeni’s House & Hearts United

Location: Newaygo, MI (onsite with occasional offsite community events)

Supervisor: Jennifer Braman, LMSW – Founder & Director, Ferris State University Alumni and Alumni Board Member

Hours: 8–12 per week (flexible scheduling, occasional weekend events)

Compensation: Unpaid/for academic credit or small stipend (negotiable)

Term: Fall, Spring, or Summer Semester

About Us

Jeni’s House is a counseling boutique and community wellness hub in a beautifully restored historic home, offering trauma-informed therapy, creative wellness experiences, and kindness-centered community events.

Our nonprofit arm, Hearts United, organizes local festivals, retreats, and outreach initiatives designed to build human connection and promote community transformation.

This internship is supervised by Jennifer Braman, LMSW, a Ferris State University alumna and active member of the Ferris State Alumni Board, who is passionate about mentoring students in hands-on, values-driven community work.


The Event & Community Engagement Intern will assist with planning, coordinating, and promoting community events and wellness experiences through Jeni’s House and Hearts United.

This internship offers hands-on experience in event design, logistics, vendor coordination, and social impact marketing — ideal for students studying Event Management, Hospitality, Marketing, Public Relations, or Community Leadership.

Learning Objectives

• Apply event management and communication principles in a real-world setting.

• Develop and execute project timelines and outreach strategies.

• Collaborate on marketing and social media content for community initiatives.

• Understand trauma-informed and kindness-centered approaches to community engagement.

• Evaluate event success through feedback, attendance data, and reflection.

Sample Projects

• Support logistics for Hearts United and Jeni’s House events (wellness retreats, festivals, pop-ups, circles, and community gatherings).

• Coordinate with vendors, musicians, and facilitators.

• Assist with on-site setup, guest experience, and tear-down.

• Draft outreach emails, flyers, and social media features.

• Contribute creative ideas for guest engagement and event storytelling.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a program such as Event Management, Hospitality, Marketing, or Public Relations.

• Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.

• Interest in kindness-centered community work, wellness, and creative events.

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a small-team setting.

• Comfortable with occasional weekend or evening events.
