Job Shadow - Charles River Museum of Industry & Innovation
Brandeis at Work: Job Shadowing gives you the chance to step into a professional setting and see what different careers are really like. You’ll spend time with alumni and other professionals, observe their day-to-day work, and get a better sense of what paths might interest you. The program is open to all majors and class years, whether you want to explore a field you’ve been curious about or take a closer look at one you’re already considering.
Space is limited, so you’ll need to apply. Students will be connected with host employers based on the criteria each organization sets, which may include your academic background, class year, experiences, or specific prerequisites.

Description of shadow experience:
Step behind the scenes at a vibrant industrial history museum and experience what it’s like to bring history to life! During this immersive shadow day, you’ll gain insight into the many roles and responsibilities that keep a small museum running.
Opportunities during the experience may include:
- Opening and preparing the museum for visitors
- Observing or assisting with guided tours
- Learning how exhibitions are developed and curated
- Supporting educational programming and social media outreach
- Sitting in on planning for the museum’s speaker series, Mill Talks
This is a fantastic opportunity for students interested in history, education, museum studies, communications, nonprofit work, STEM, environmental justice, business history, or labor rights—or for anyone curious about the inner workings of cultural institutions.
In a small museum setting, staff members wear many hats—so expect a multifaceted experience that offers a broad view of museum operations.
Dress Code: Casual/Comfortable; no open-toed shoes around our heavy machinery.
Lunch: Student should bring a lunch or eat prior to arrival
Open to: All class years and all majors
