Senior Data Analyst Role
The IAR Senior Data Analyst is responsible for extracting, processing, analyzing, and reporting on data to produce rigorous, actionable insights and research. They establish and maintain strong relationships with peers and leaders across IAR, Program Development, and Data Engineering. They perform ad hoc analyses, build and maintain standard reports and data visualizations, and deliver information and insights through various methods and media that privilege data storytelling and compress time-to-action.
What you’ll do
- Analyze course-level performance to surface improvement opportunities and equity gaps
- Build dashboards and reports in Tableau or Power BI for internal academic and product teams
- Translate business and academic needs into clear technical requirements
- Use SQL to manage and extract insights from complex, multi-source data environments
- Partner with Data Engineering to resolve data quality issues and optimize pipelines
- Present findings to cross-functional teams and leadership, adapting to technical and non-technical audiences
- Document logic, sources, and insight history to support transparency and scale
What you bring
- 5+ years of experience in data analysis, institutional research, or applied analytics
- Expert SQL skills including joins, CTEs, aggregation, performance tuning, and data transformation
- Experience using Tableau or Power BI to build reports and identify patterns
- Working knowledge of forecasting methods and causal analysis
- Clear communicator who translates data into narratives that prompt action
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Data Science, Statistics, Education, Public Policy)
Bonus if you have
- Experience with Python or R
- Familiarity with curriculum development, higher education, or learner success analytics
- Exposure to data management platforms (e.g., catalogs, dictionaries) and analytics documentation standards
Work Location
- This is a full-time, in-office position at WGU’s headquarters in Salt Lake City, UT. You’ll work side-by-side with a multidisciplinary team of analysts, researchers, and educators committed to data-informed innovation.
