Health Equity Scholar

Vital CxNs (“vital connections”) is a start-up 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that takes a grassroots approach to forging partnerships that advance equitable health outcomes. We are driven by our mission of partnering with communities to co-create a more accessible, effective, and equitable health ecosystem through convening cross-sector stakeholders, leveraging critical resources, and investing in data-driven, locally-sustained community health infrastructure. Currently, our community-driven approach, rooted in our four core values of equity, partnership, reliability, and transparency is focused on the areas of food access, maternal health equity, mental health, and community-based health and wellness.  


 

Our Health Equity Internship Program is an opportunity for budding health equity champions to learn from and contribute to community-led systems change strategies advancing health equity across all projects at Vital CxNs.  Scholars will have the opportunity to work alongside a small, dynamic team and to  receive coaching and mentorship in systems change work as they contribute in meaningful ways to a growing organization. Each Health Equity Scholar will also be supported through independently planning, executing, and presenting a deliverable scoped for their assigned project area(s).


 

Hourly Commitment: 10 hours per week

Compensation: $25 per hour 

Timeline: September 8th 2025 - May 22nd 2026  with the opportunity to extend into the summer


 

Core Responsibilities:  The health equity scholar will support the development, implementation and evaluation of projects across the organization including (but not limited to):

  • Communications: Compiling and developing a weekly resource newsletter, identifying opportunities for thought leadership, contributing to social media presence, and reporting on key performance indicators.  
  • Community Convos: sourcing and coordinating speakers, developing event agendas, and collecting quantitative and qualitative data to support our evaluation strategy. 
  • Partner Spotlight Series: developing interview guides, conducting interviews with cross-sector partners, writing long-form storytelling pieces to be featured on our website. 
  • Mental health: onboarding new site partners and updating our Mental Wellness Resource Guide.
  • Food access: attending cross-sector coalition meetings, developing post-meeting communications, upkeeping our Food Resource Guide and supporting data collection as needed. 
  • Attending team meetings and contributing to strategic planning sessions. 
  • Supporting other project-related activities as needed.

 

Qualifications:

  • A passion for the mission and vision of the organization.
  • Excellent organizational skills with a high-level of attention to detail. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Ability to juggle competing priorities and deadlines. 
  • An understanding and readiness for the culture of a small, non-profit start-up, including but not limited to: flexibility, innovation, strong sense of initiative, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment both independently and collaboratively.
  • Knowledge or ability to quickly learn how to use digital tools including: Google Suite, Canva, Mailchimp, work management software, and remote meeting tools.
  • Fluency in other languages is preferred.
  • This role can be fully remote. Opportunities to attend in-person community events and team gatherings will be available. Boston-based candidates are preferred.
