POSITION: ACCOUNTANT
REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR OF FINANCE
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Accountant works collaboratively with the finance team to maintain a complete and systematic set of subsidiary records and ledger accounts. This role focuses on Plant Accounting, Payroll, and Accounts Receivable, ensuring accuracy and compliance across financial operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain accurate financial records by recording transactions and documenting financial status, with emphasis on Plant Accounting and Payroll.
- Process, analyze, and correct payroll data to ensure accurate general ledger entries, proper approvals, and correct paid-time-off balances.
- Reconcile employee benefit calculations and earnings in coordination with Human Resources.
- Manage accounting functions within the Work Order System, including resolving discrepancies related to materials, assets, and labor.
- Assist the Senior Accountant in evaluating, reconciling, auditing, and maintaining accounts to ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Support the preparation of regulatory reports for agencies such as TVA, CFC, and the IRS.
- Assist with processing accounts payable, fleet, and general ledger entries.
- Operate proprietary accounting software and perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Finance.
- Maintain confidentiality of employee and customer information to protect cooperative operations.
- Serve as a backup to the Senior Accountant, Accounting Specialist and Accounting Clerk, as needed.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Finance or General Manager.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
- Two - Five years of experience in Accounting; experience at an electric utility or related industry preferred.
- Must possess strong working knowledge of Generally-Accepted Accounting Principles.
SKILLS:
- Advanced level of experience with Microsoft Excel required.
- Attention to detail and high level of accuracy are required.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team oriented environment.
- Possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and possess the highest levels of integrity and honesty.
WORK CONDITIONS:
- Demands for the position are typical of an office environment and must be met to perform the essential functions of the position.
- Visual acuity and manual dexterity to enter data is required.
- Frequently sits, stands, and walks.
- Ability to stoop, bend at knees and waist, squat, and occasionally lift up to 10lbs.
OFFICE HOURS:
- Normal office hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
- May be required to work outside normal business hours.
RATE OF PAY:
- Commensurate with experience.
- Salary Exempt position.
