I learned a lot of skills that I will be able to use elsewhere. Working with professors and other students was very motivating and enjoyable!
What I wish was different
I wish I had started sooner! The sooner you start with research, the more skills you will get an opportunity to learn!
Advice
Gaining experience with research or an internship is one of the most important parts of the academic experience. Don't miss out on a great opportunity to become better at what you'd like to do after school!

Digital Designer Intern
January - June 2020 • Denver, CO
What I liked
I liked getting to network with the staff and other student resource offices there. The Scholarship Community was a fun bunch and taught me a lot about how they support and guide their scholars. I also enjoyed planning and advertising all the conferences, game nights, scholarship dinners, and exclusive student events.
What I wish was different
I wish I could have spent more time with the office and finding new design paths for all of their outreach projects. I wished I could have put together more videos for the program as well.
Advice
Definitely utilize all of your time there. There's so much to explore and so many great people to meet within this community.

Data Entry Clerk
January 2019 • Denver, CO
What I liked
Being at the CU Denver Finance Office allowed me to be a part of what really makes our school. Understanding how the schools pays for events, records payments from each department. It was very interesting to look beyond the curtains to see how our campus functions in a financial setting
What I wish was different
I think that the school’s database system can often seem outdated (in my experience in the Finance Office, Office of Undergraduate Admissions). The efficiency for my work was definitely hindered due to the lack of updated software I used for work on a day to day basis
Advice
I believe that this position has been extremely beneficial in my understanding of the working world, and contextualizing what finance and accounting look like. There were often times where I was definitely challenged, whether that was through my interactions with the CU Denver/Anchutz staff, or just task difficulties where I had to show my own perseverance and problem solving in order to complete my duties.
